Part of a trend to highlight the villages of the greater Barolo appellation, the Giacomo Grimaldi 2017 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello reveals soft fruit tones that are appropriately intermingled with spice, earth, tar and crushed flowers. The wine is silky in texture with finely tamed tannins and enough fruit softness to cover the palate. This wine tastes great straight out of the gate (especially if you give the open bottle a double decanting). About 3,500 bottles were released.

From a 4-hectare parcel, the 2017 Barolo Sotto Castello Di Novello is ripe with cedar, tobacco, iron-rich earth, and dried cherry. The palate is inviting and has lift within its fruit-forward nature and has tannins that emerge on the finish. Drink 2021-2034.
The 2017 Barolo Sotto Castello di Novello is ample, creamy and so expressive. Succulent black cherry, menthol, licorice and cloves all flesh out in the glass. This rich, heady Barolo has so much to offer, so much to give. Crushed flowers, cedar, dried herbs and sweet pipe tobacco linger.
