The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Cailleret 1er Cru has an overt wild peach-scented nose, with touches of pressed white flowers and light honeysuckle scents. The aromatics here are very seductive. The palate is balanced with sharp, citric acidity on the entry. Palpably energetic, fresh and quite saline, it doesn't quite possess the breeding of the best wines in the appellation. The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret is very good, unwinding in the glass with scents of pear, orange oil, white flowers, fresh bread and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with fine depth and mid-palate amplitude, it's bright and precise, standing out as the most complete of Chartron's premiers crus this year.
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Cailleret 1er Cru is even better than the preceeding Clos de La Pucelle thanks to its heightened mineralité and killer delineation. The aromatics are in H.D. The palate is powerful and intense, very sappy and saline with a dense and very long lightly spiced finish. There is a sense of completeness to this Puligny that I love, a thrilling wine from Jean-Michel Chartron.
