A mix of both primary, lifted, white flower notes and richer, tertiary, savoury tones of hazelnut and toasted oatmeal fill the nose. The palate is wonderfully creamy with a lovely balance of melon, russet apple fruit and smoky toasted hazelnuts. The textural oiliness combines with the refreshing acidity to form a balanced, integrated whole, while the weighty mid-palate adds impressive depth. Drinking beautifully but will hold.

A pungent nose is composed of notes of petrol, lemon rind and white orchard fruit. There is a refined, even seductive mouth feel to the palate coating medium-bodied flavors that possess fine depth and particularly good persistence on the balanced and lightly citrus-inflected finish.
The 2013 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Chaumées comes from two plots that form 0. 22 hectares. It has a slightly muffled bouquet when compared to the Maltoie that demonstrates more delineation from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry, although it does not quite have the refinement and harmony of the Maltroie on its “unruly” finish. Perhaps it will be better behaved once in bottle?
