Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2019-2032, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2017

The 2012 Barolo Cannubi is super-finessed, open-knit and gracious, with striking aromatic lift and plenty of precision. Bright red stone fruit, chalk and white pepper give the 2012 its distinctive aromatic signatures. Soft tannins and exceptional balance add to the wine's considerable appeal. The 2012 is a bit more buttoned up than it was last year, but every bit as beautiful. This is a gorgeous Barolo from Chiara Boschis.

The 2012 Barolo Cannubi shows dark fruit nuances, sweet flavors and slightly astringent tannins. The vintage holds back in terms of overall complexity compared to past editions that showed more depth, even at this young stage in their evolution. This is a common trait across the Cannubi cru in 2012. What the wine does offer, however, is a plump and upfront sense of dark fruit with pretty notes of rose petal and grilled herb.

A great example of site, the 2012 Barolo Cannubi is deep, sensual and beautifully perfumed. The aromatics and pure, creamy texture of Cannubi comes through loud and clear. The Cannubi is a wine of pure texture and voluptuousness, qualities that it shows as layers of fruit blossom in all directions. A host of dark red cherry, plum, mint and spice accompany the generous, caressing finish.

Fermented in rotofermenters. 'I am very attached to them because you can work in a delicate way', says Giorgio Boschis, Chiara’s brother who co-owns the estate. Grapes are destalked but not crushed. The must is heated up to 23 °C and with the help of a pied de cuve the fermentation starts immediately. malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and aged for 29 months in 20-hl French oak casks as well as partly in barriques. Bottled in August 2015. Supple and has a real generosity about it, while still retaining its elegance. Pretty cherry fruit with real depth on the finish. Hardly any oak visible at this stage. Chewy and youthful and not ready by far, yet wonderfully balanced. Classic and taut. (WS)
