Pale ruby. Still intensely fruity nose and palate, even at 26 years! There's light tarriness on the finish and still in great shape. Really intense impact with a very interesting battle between the sweet fruit and the dry end. (JR)

An elegant, Burgundian-styled effort, Marengo's 1997 Barolo Brunate is a spicy, black cherry, and floral-scented, medium to full-bodied wine with beautiful purity, moderate tannin and structure, and a mid-weight character that is less ostentatious than many of its peers. The subtle finish reveals well-integrated tannin, acidity, and alcohol. It can be enjoyed now, or cellared for 15+ years. It is slightly less impressive from bottle than it was from barrique.
