A rich bouquet of ripe berries, smoked meats, black truffle and forest floor introduces the 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots, a medium to full-bodied, incipiently fleshy wine that's rich and concentrated, with elegantly fine-grained structuring tannins and a lively spine of ripe acids.

The 2018 Pommard Les Grands Epenots 1er Cru is missing a little definition on the nose, which is rather disjointed at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well-judged acidity. Missing some complexity on the admittedly quite elegant finish. Drink this before the other Pommards.
Subtle but not invisible wood influence surrounds the very ripe but not jammy aromas of plum, dark raspberry and pungent earth. The less concentrated but more refined medium-bodied flavors retain good delineation that carries over to the somewhat one-dimensional if lengthy finish. This will undoubtedly add depth with time in bottle but it's going to need quite a bit to achieve the upper end of my projected range.
