The 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi brings together all the Albino Rocca signatures in a deep, fleshy wine loaded with personality. Sweet black cherry, plum, leather and spice all infuse this sumptuous, creamy Barbaresco with a good bit of richness to play off the tannins that lurk beneath. The 2016 carries its power with remarkable grace and balance. Orange peel, mint, sweet red cherry, spice and crushed flowers linger in a gorgeous Barbaresco that is at once translucent, powerful and deep.

These are all finely crafted wines from Albino Rocca. The 2016 Barbaresco Ronchi is a precise and balanced expression that shows impeccable aromas and fresh primary fruit. You get a clear and unobstructed view onto the vintage thanks to the small details—wild berry, rose hip, toasted almond and licorice—that this wine delivers with such forthcoming ease. I would pair it with a post-meal plate of powerful gorgonzola, sliced pears and sweet dates.
Barbaresco. Tasted blind. Deep ruby. Intensely perfumed cherry nose. Rich cherry fruit with a hint of saffron. The finish is much more focused and pure with succulent fruit and firm tannins, but it all melts together on the finish. Needs much more time. (WS)
