Punteggio 92-95/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Jun 2020

A pure, airy and cool if highly restrained nose speaks of the essence of what orchard fruit, citrus confit, acacia and an impressive array of spice elements. The refined if not super dense broad-shouldered flavors still pack plenty of punch on the powerful and impressively persistent finish. This is a lovely combination of power and refinement and is a wine that should age gracefully over the next 12 to 15 years.

There are nine barrels of the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a broad-shouldered, powerful wine that offers up aromas of pear, white flowers, buttered citrus and warm bread. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a rounded, muscular profile and a long, resonant finish.

Punteggio 92-94/100 · Da bere 2023-2048, Neal Martin, Jan 2020

The 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru really delivers on the nose this year, featuring intense, mineral-rich citrus fruit with subtle scents of lemon thyme, fennel and crushed chalk, imbued with superb delineation. The palate is packed with weight and density, as you would expect, although the wood feels a little conspicuous and slightly occludes the terroir expression at the moment. [Note that Frédéric Barnier told me that this came from a one-year barrel but the final blend will have around one-third new oak.] At the moment, based on these samples, I prefer the Chevalier-Montrachet’s tension and precision by direct comparison. This is a lovely Montrachet, but it doesn’t quite deliver that all-important knockout punch.
