Punteggio 19/20 · Da bere 2025-2037, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Dec 2018

These are the first vines Ben Leroux bought (2009) and his only vines outside Meursault. One-third new oak, 228 litres. Racked end of July. Toasty brioche richness but it does not overwhelm the fruit. Gorgeously rich on the palate. So generous and spicy with all the lovely ripe fruit, with a sweetness to balance the sufficient but not obvious acid. A freshness more from the lees texture and light grip. Lots of clementine fragrance. Powerful, intense, full of tension. A wonderful wine. (JH)

(Leroux owns this vineyard on the Chassagne side of the appellation; one of the three barrels was new): Deep, ripe aromas of fresh apricot and clove. Very rich, sappy and powerful but shy and quite backward today, conveying outstanding breadth and a strong impression of soil and solidity. The sweetest of these young '17s in the middle palate despite the fact that this cuvée is lower in alcohol than usual. Finishes with serious slowly mounting length, a lightly tannic quality and a strong impression of phenolic richness. This grand cru appears to be built for a long evolution in bottle. (13.1% alcohol with a pH of 3.53)
