The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has quite a terse and steely bouquet, maybe with just a little SO2 smudging the delineation. The taut, fresh palate is well defined with a spicy entry, fine acidity and a slightly minty finish. It feels a little worked in the winery compared to others, but there is good substance and the foundations of a wine where I believe the terroir will come through with time. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has a beautifully defined Granny Smith apple, Conference pear and wet limestone bouquet, introverted at first but finding its voice with aeration. The well-balanced palate displays a superb line of acidity. One of Carillon’s most malic wines, with a long, spicy finish. Long-term.
The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet opens in the glass with scents of lemon oil, white flowers, almond paste and crushed chalk. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, textural and charming, with great cut and a precise finish. As I noted last year, this is typically the most immediate of Carillon's premiers crus, and the 2017 is showing well out of the gates.
