Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2012-2020, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2013

Part of Lazzarita cru. Wild yeast used for fermentation in cement then 36 months in large oak. Five generations of Porros have made wine. Pale ruby. Slightly burnt, sweet notes. Not the finest with a certain lack of freshness. A bit astringent on the finish. (JR)

The 2007 Barolo Vigna Lazzairasco emerges from the glass with spices, tobacco, leather and mint. This is an especially fleshy vintage for the Lazzairasco. The wine shows fabulous overall balance and a sensual, inviting personality that is impossible to resist. The mid-palate generosity and overall sense of harmony makes this an excellent choice for drinking over the next decade or so.

These are two delicious wines from Guido Porro, one of the new generation of young growers in Serralunga. Porro recently inherited a choice parcel in Vigna Rionda, which he is now replanting. Needless to say, there is much to look forward to here. As for the 2007 Baroli, they are both outstanding, but not as differentiated as in some previous vintages. The style remains traditional, with an emphasis on mid-weight elegance. Importer: Kermit Lynch, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524

Serralunga d'Alba. Medium ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Balsamic nose slow to open up to cherry and dark fruit. Good concnetration of fruit and great chewy tannin, which dominates the finish. Grows on you and already quite aproachable. (WS)
