Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2017-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2014

The top shelf 2010 Barolo Turne (with the gold label) represents a stylistic departure among the various wines in Silvio Grasso’s Barolo portfolio. All his other wines (in the white labels) are aged in French barrique, but Barolo Turne sees 24 months of Slavonina oak casks instead bringing it towards a more “traditional” style. Bright berry and dried cherry is followed by licorice, tar and pressed roses. It shows good complexity but needs more time to evolve. Drink: 2017-2028. La Morra. Quite concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Sweet oak with bags of ripe fruit underneath. Powerfully sweet and ripe and structured by slightly astringent tannins. (WS)

La Morra. Quite concentrated ruby with orange tinges. Cherry jam! Breathtaking concentration on the palate. Good acidity and crunch, but certainly not a shy wine. Smoky note on the finish. (WS)

Sweet tobacco, underbrush, mint, licorice, tobacco and spices meld together in Grasso's 2010 Barolo Turne. Firm tannins support the long, intense finish laced with dried rose petals, mint and anise. The Turne opens up nicely in the glass as the beguiling aromatics release and underlying mineral notes become more prominent. As always, the Turne is made in a much more traditional style than the rest of the Grasso Barolos, with longer fermentations and aging in cask rather than French oak barrels.
