The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Caillerets 1er Cru sports a very slight reduction on the nose, although nothing serious. Crisp and precise, it offers orange pith and freshly sliced pear and a touch of smoke. The palate is also reduced on the entry, delivering good density and weight, and a little chewy in texture. The finish is initially a little subdued, yet it meliorates dramatically with aeration and musters wonderful clarity. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Tank sample. Wonderfully stony quality even with pure, clear-cut citrus. Oak spice on the palate but it’s the zesty, mouth-watering fruit that shines at the moment. (JH)
The 2017 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets is one bottling that Pillot suspects will surpass his 2014 rendition, and I'm inclined to agree, though no-one would regret owning either. Offering up aromas of crushed chalk, white flowers, green apple and pear, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with lovely energy and cut to balance its concentration and structuring dry extract.
