The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru is a little too reduced for my liking, although it seems to recover with aeration and there is plenty of fruit concentration. The palate is slightly tropical on the entry, but very pure, with a fine bead of acidity. Fresh and quite saline, it needs two or three years to assimilate the oak, though it should be worth the wait because there is a lot of extract and intensity. Pushing Grand Cru in quality. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes is very promising, unwinding in the glass with notes of lemon, tangerine oil, dried white flowers, honeycomb and spices. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with broader shoulders than the Clavoillon, with tangy balancing acids, thrilling incipient complexity and a long, saline finish.
