(Charmes du Bas was hit hard by frost, said Jobard, but the top portion of the vineyard was normal): Bright lemon-yellow. Powerful yellow fruits dominate the nose. Concentrated, tactile and savory; a very dry wine whose Perrières-like wet-stone minerality gives it serious energy and punch. Not overly opulent or rich like some past vintages but shows more material, power and size than the Genevrières. Finishes tactile, salty and long. I might have picked this blind as Perrières.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes comes from two parcels, the lower one touched by frost, so that the production is a modest 15% down. It has a pleasant reduction on the nose, well defined however, with good intensity. The palate is very well balanced and is bestowed the richness one expects from this vineyard, counterbalanced by a saline thread that governs the second half. An interesting wine predestined for aging, this is one of the best wines from Antoine Jobard in 2016.
