Note di degustazione
The Chalumaux offers a creamy, attractive middle ground between the power and fruit density of the Jaqcuelottes and the steely minerality and spice of the La Garenne. The fruit is delicate and elegant, with pretty floral accents, and a vanilla creaminess that complements the chalky minerality beautifully. The finish remains fresh and focused, and forms a very pleasing and balanced whole.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chalumaux is a charming, elegant wine that flows from the glass with pretty aromas of mandarin, ripe apples, beeswax and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with attractive purity and a bright, mineral finish.
Bright yellow. Aromas of ripe apricot and crushed rock are complemented by smoky, spicy oak (two of the five barrels were new, which was roughly the same percentage used for the Clos de la Garenne). Still quite tight in the middle, and less fruity and floral than the Clos de la Garenne, but the spice, menthol and mineral flavors are sweetened somewhat by the wine's oak element. The dry, slightly aggressive finish displays a hint of citrus peel edginess that will require some time in bottle to be absorbed. Today I prefer the Clos de la Garenne for its greater finesse.
