Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2018-2025, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2014

Relatively pale ruby. Nicely balanced and very polite even if not especially concentrated. As though put through a rather enthusiastic filter. Drying grainy tannins on the end. (JR)

A big, dark wine, the 2010 Barolo Bussia wraps around the palate with notable depth and richness. Sweet tobacco, earthiness, mint, licorice, anise and leather are some of the notes that emerge from expressive, nuanced Barolo. There is good depth in the glass, even if the Bussia lacks the freshness to age gracefully for the long-term. I would give the 2010 a few years for the tannins to soften, but overall, this is a medium-term Barolo.

Monforte d’Alba. Very pale ruby. Hints of fruitcake on the nose, but otherwise pretty closed. Much livelier on the palate. Amazing balance of crunchy acidity and powdery tannins. Very fine, almost lightweight, but with brooding intensity. (WS)

Medium red. Tight aromas of red cherry, red licorice and spices. Juicy, spicy and tightly wound; more savory than sweet. Fresher and younger than the normale, showing more precision and floral lift, but less pliant today, and dominated by its tannic spine. This sappy, nicely gripping Barolo will need at least five years in the cellar, at this point my rating may prove to be conservative.
