(Moreau made barely 50% of their largest cuvée in 2016): Bright, light straw-yellow. Ripe aromas of candied peach and honey convey an almost sweet impression. Quite rich, silky and smooth but with lively lemony acidity giving shape to the pear, yellow peach and saline mineral flavors. Conveys an impression of solid dry extract, but the firm finish reveals a touch of dryness.

The 2016 Chassagne Montrachet Village, which includes a few drops of premier cru depleted by the frost, has a crisp hazelnut and smoke-scented bouquet that is fresh and focused. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, a subtle marine influence at play here with a touch of sour lemon on the finish that lends tension. It might just cut away swiftly on the finish, but it will still give pleasure over the next five or so years.
40%+ of the domaine’s production, being fined currently in tank. A little suppressed on the nose but with good tension on the palate. Lots of depth and concentration – after all it contains tiny amounts of three premiers crus in 2016. Builds towards the finish. Rather glamorous end. (JR)
