Punteggio 95/100 · James Suckling, Feb 2021

This is very dense and tight with layers of fruit and mineral character with honeysuckle and hazelnut aromas and flavors. Full-bodied and tight with freshness and density. Very serious and structured. Drink or hold.

(from a new supplier in 2016): Pale, bright yellow. Vibrant if youthfully tight aromas of lemon, lime and fleurs de vignes (Véronique Drouhin noted that this wine smells like the flowering vineyards do on the day of our tasting, June 1). Tighter in the mouth than the Folatières, conveying a less-sweet impression. Firmly built and delicate but on the lean side today and in need of time to absorb more of its acidity. This doesn't show the early balance of the Folatières but that should come with some bottle aging. (Incidentally, Véronique Drouhin asserted that 2010 was the last vintage with which the family had any issues with premature oxidation, and she noted that they still avoid using Diam corks except for their 375-milliliter bottles of white wines.)

Cask sample. 16 months in oak. Ripe and spicy on the nose, even a little oily. Deep, rich and with a savoury oak quality on the palate, just fresh enough though it’s a bit flat on the finish. (JH)
