Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2018

The 2015 Volnay Villages reveals a sumptuous and fruit-driven bouquet of cherries, strawberry and fruit compote, followed by a full-bodied, ample and generous palate, with velvety tannins, a sappy but sweet core of fruit, and a lavish, open-knit profile. Cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare and harvested on September 4, this is a gourmand expression of Volnay in the 2015 vintage.

(the estate has two parcels of roughly 40-year-old vines, in Ez Echards and Les Petits Gamets; no new oak for this cuvée ; all of these 2015s are carrying 13% or more natural alcohol): Bright, deep red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry and menthol. Fat, sweet village wine with good concentration and energy to its black fruit and violet flavors. Plenty of size and solidity here but graceful too. Finishes with dusty, ripe tannins and good lift.

The 2015 Volnay (from Ez Echards and Les Petits Garnets) offers gorgeous aromatic nuance, finely sculpted flavors and lovely depth. Plum, red cherry and spice flesh out in a Volnay endowed with both striking energy and textural depth. The 2015 is a terrific expression of the year, not to mention an absolutely delicious wine.

Cask sample. Notably dark crimson. Really very intense and dramatic on the nose. Then exciting tension on the palate. Certainly makes a statement! Almost more Pommard intensity than Volnay elegance but lots of delivery. (JR)
