Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2018-2038, Jeb Dunnuck, Mar 2018

More textured, perfumed, and concentrated, the 2013 Barolo Parafada comes from 55-year-old vines planted in the southern facing Parafada Vineyard in the Serralunga region of Barolo. Aged 30 months in oak, it offers another level of depth and richness as well as terrific notes of black cherries, toasted spice, dried flowers, and hints of licorice. Medium to full-bodied, silky and elegant on the palate, yet with building structure and tannin, it’s an impressive, perfumed wine that will keep for two decades or more.

Serralunga d’Alba. Bright cherry red. Racy and transparent and lifted. Very dark and grainy. Real refinement. (JR)

The 2013 Barolo Parafada is endowed with a huge core of fruit, as it always is. Powerful, resonant and tannic, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own. These 60 year-old vines confer intensity, nuance and pedigree. This is a fabulous showing from the Parafada. Don’t miss it.

The 2013 Barolo Parafada is a gorgeous wine that needs ample time to complete its promising aging evolution. The quality of fruit is still tight and slightly nervous, although the well-managed tannins show an impressive level of integration even at this early stage. The wine is assembled with tightly fitted building blocks that give it a grounding sense of firmness and stacked layering.
