The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles 1er Cru has a crisp, mineral-driven bouquet with subtle almond and popcorn scents in the background. It is tightly wound but there is energy here. The palate is well balanced with a fine thread of acidity, poised and focused, and though not the most intense Puligny this vintage, there is a sensation of length and amplitude. The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Pucelles offers up a ripe but reticent nose of lemon cream, mandarin, yellow orchard fruit and apple blossom. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and the most ample of Leflaive's premier crus this year, with a glossily textural attack, good depth at the core and grand cru amplitude followed by a saline, tangy finish. In style, this Pucelles nods to neighboring Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, but it isn't quite as concentrated, and I'd expect it to offer more precocious appeal in its youth.
Pale, bright yellow. Reticent, classic aromas of peach flesh and pit with smoky minerals. Deeper and more powerful in the middle palate than the Folatières but tightened in the early going by strong lemony acidity and thus less silky and refined today. The firm-edged finish reveals a repeating lemony element and a touch of phenolics. This will need time. New winemaker Pierre Vincent told me that this wine has 4.8 grams per liter acidity and a very low pH of 3.05.
