Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2024-2033, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2017

Pale, bright yellow. Pure, backward nose is more precise and higher pitched than the Bâtard, offering scents of tangerine zest, crushed rock and silex minerality. Boasts an uncommon combination of thickness with verve. Not heavy but incredibly opulent in the mouth, with its citrus and fresh herb flavors supported by bracing minerality. A wonderfully intense, seamless wine of terroir , and a step above the other 2015s I tasted at this address. Really superb palate-staining length.

The 2015 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru offers crisp, almost clinical aromas of cold stone and flint, with just a judicious touch of reduction that enhances the overall effect. It takes time to gather momentum, but after a couple of minutes it really develops fine intensity. The palate is very well balanced with a live-wire opening: real energy and tension, superb salinity and a very long finish that fans out gloriously. Without a doubt, this is Pierre-Yves Colin's finest 2015—an absolute gem.

Cask sample. One large barrel of 350 litres. PY buys by multiples of 18 cases of fruit = 350 litres. Very calcareous. He buys in grapes but does 95% of the work in the parcel. Smoky, racy nose. Good density and masses of acidity! Still youthful and very tense but with good build. Lots of vibration here. An appellation that suits PYCM's nervy style. Bone dry (cf the richness of the Bâtard). Great delicacy. Very long – builds towards the end. Really edgy but very very youthful. (JR)

(picked at the beginning of the harvest with 13% natural alcohol): Pale greenish-yellow color. Very pure, penetrating aromas of lemon, white peach, wild herbs and crushed rock. Boasts incredible energy and grip to its salty, classically dry flavors of citrus peel and liquid rock. Stains the palate on the endless finish with saline minerality. One of the vintage's most electric wines--and quintessential Chevalier-Montrachet.
