Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2019-2023, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2017

Bright, green-tinged yellow. Lime, underripe pineapple and menthol aromas are accented by an element of minerality. Enters the mouth with a touch of sweetness (actually 2.2 grams per liter residual sugar), then turns juicy and herbal, with bracing acidity limiting the wine's amplitude. Finishes with a slight bitter edge. Colin suggests waiting five years, but I'm not wild for this village wine.

Cask sample. Intense cedary citrus. Intense, super-dry, very long. Not trying to please but leaves a strong impression on the long finish. Aftertaste shows subtle oak and high-quality fruit. (JH)

The 2015 Chassagne Montrachet, which comes from 15 different parcels and matured in 20% new oak, offers an attractive, patisserie-tinged bouquet with hints of nutmeg and walnut coming through, rendering it almost Meursault-like in style. The palate is fresh on the entry with a keen line of acidity, which is necessary to counterbalance the fatness on the mid-palate. Quite rich, a little creamy in style, but I can see the wide appeal that this will have.

(aging in 450-liter foudres ): Pretty aromas of lemon, pear and white flowers. A sweet, silky, nicely concentrated fruit bomb on the palate, but with good energy and focus and a finish that avoids any sign of alcoholic bitterness.
