The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières 1er Cru is showing a lot of reduction on the nose, making it difficult to read the terroir , though I suspect that will dissipate with aeration/bottle age. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry and just a little honeyed in texture, with impressive depth and a feisty, ginger- and aniseed-tinged finish that lingers in the mouth. Very fine. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Pale, bright yellow. Delicate aromas of white peach, lemon drop, mandarin orange, menthol and flowers stand out as quite different in the context of this set of 2015s. Suave, fine-grained and airy, in a distinctly silky, elegant style. Lemon and floral flavors are energized by underlying minerality. Not a powerful style but this rather deep wine, from shallow soil in the upper part of the cru below La Truffière, finishes with subtle lingering length. It should offer early pleasure owing to its balance and restrained sweetness but evolve gracefully.
Herbal and stony on the nose. Impressive intensity of fruit without being especially fruity – more depth and concentration than bright citrus flavours. Long. (JH)
