Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2028, Neal Martin, Sep 2020

The 2015 Chablis Les Butteaux 1er Cru shows impressive mineralité on the nose for the growing season. Wet pavement/petrichor scents come through, along with hints of fern and Golden Delicious apple. The palate is well balanced with lovely weight on the entry plus a fine bead of acidity. It does not quite deliver the nerve of the 2017 tasted alongside, yet it feels reassuringly persistent.

Classic Chablis nose shows more chalky minerality than easygoing fruit. Quite concentrated and precise on the palate, with intense orchard and citrus fruit flavors framed by harmonious acidity and firm minerality. Even a bit lean in a positive way. Finishes with a palate-staining citrus firmness. This struck me as like a blend of 2014 and 2012. A superb premier cru.

The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux has a well-defined bouquet with touches of mint and bay leaf. I like the energy here. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a twist of bitter lemon, edgy and saline with a taut, linear finish. “Proper Chablis” (as they say).

(a bit touched by hail, says Piuze, and thus less tight and more rich than usual): Pale, green-tinged yellow. Lime and dusty stone aromas and flavors are complicated by an exotic note of passion fruit. This exuberant premier cru shows good acidity but only moderate bite and depth. A green note gives lift to the finish but the wine comes across as a bit edgy and disjointed today--in need of the tightening influence of a sulfur addition.
