Mid crimson. A bit formulaic on the nose. Rather tarted up. Sweet start and then dry end. Tastes as though there were some wood tannins as well as grape tannins in here? (JR)

The 2012 Barolo Bric dël Fiasc is a delightful wine with a full and generous personality. Compared to past vintages, this edition shows a soft and round disposition that doesn't place it too far away from the similarly warm 2011 growing season. Dark fruit, spice and balsam herb are well balanced against one another. Although there are many parallels between the two vintages, this wine feels more delineated and sharply defined in terms of mouthfeel and structure. The wine closes on a tart and edgy note.
Castiglione Falletto. Lacklustre mid ruby with orange tinges. Balsamic and in need of lots of air. Plenty of tight and compact fruit and lots of depth. Supple and with massive but fine tannins. Exciting prospects here. (WS)
Mid ruby with broad orange-tinged rim. Cherry fruit with hints of marzipan. Compact, succulent palate that is still holding back a little. Lots of fine, powdery bitter-sweet tannins. Needs more time to open fully, but lots of promise here. (WS)
