2014 Meursault Les Perrieres

A bit shut down after the April bottling, dominated today by smoky, flinty minerality. Fat, sweet and fine-grained; like the Narvaux this is showing more minerals than fruit, offering a hint of pineapple and a strong crushed-stone character. Savory, very rich and deep but fine-grained too, this classically dry Perrières finishes tactile, saline and very long. My score may prove to be overly conservative.

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières has a taut and stony, slightly fumé-style nose that needs some encouragement from the glass. The palate is lucid, opening with crisp acidity and energetic, citric fruit; it begins to fan out when suddenly it turns volte-face, and clams up towards a much more stoic, linear finish. As such, I suspect it will require 3-4 years in bottle.

Since 2012. Almost 20% new oak. From the Ch de Puligny, towards Blagny. Rather inexpressive currently. Some sweetness on the front palate but not that brilliantly delineated. Maybe it will become more impressive? Medium weight. (JR)
