The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet les Referts 1er Cru has a very linear, mineral-driven, chalky bouquet cut from a similar cloth to the Folatieres ’13. The palate is crisp and tense on the entry with flinty, granitic notes marrying nicely with the citrus fruit and also a hint of pear and white peach to add another dimension on the finish. Excellent.

Excellent. ||Visiting Francois Carillon on a chilly, windy Monday evening, it was somewhat a relief to step inside his warm barrel cellar full of newborn 2014s. François told me that he cropped the 2013 vintage September 26 to October 4. I enthused about his roster of 2013s that I feel show more drive and ambition than when I tasted the 2012s from barrel a year ago. In particular, his Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru was spectacular, one of the best of several I have encountered from barrel. Given the reasonable prices for the wines, many of these come recommended. eRobertParker.com.December, 2014
