Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Neal Martin, Oct 2023

The 2013 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru has an open, meaty, savory bouquet that feels fully mature after ten years. It develops an attractive minty note with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with leafy red fruit, dried meats and a soft landing on the finish. Maybe it just misses some complexity compared to other vintages? That said, it is drinking well now.

A very different style to the other Volnay premiers crus here: exotic, kirsch-scented, limestone-pure, though still dusty and short at the end. (AH)

Punteggio 91-93/100 · Da bere 2016-2028, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2014

The 2013 Volnay 1er Cru les Caillerets is more austere on the nose compared to the Fremiets, but there is more transparency and definition here, the terroir percolating through the red and black fruit. The palate is chewy on the entry with good depth, a little abrasive at the moment but there is a keen thread of acidity combined with good structure on the finish that suggests this should age nicely over the next two decades. There is also a lovely saline tang on the aftertaste that urges another sip. Very fine.
