The 2011 Barolo Villero reflects the characteristics of the vineyard cru thanks to a dark, profound and powerful fruit profile. The 2011 vintage offers a very interesting and impressive interpretation of this site with thick texture and deep aromatic layering. The wine is structured and muscular with blackberry preserves, grilled herb, ash and asphalt. This wine is poised for a long a successful bottle evolution. It needs to lose its baby fat.

Pale ruby. Heady aromas of airborne tar(!). Real lift and transparency. Racy and so seductive already. Low-key tannins evident only on the very end. Super-lively. (JR)
Very pale ruby. Minerally and earthy and with hints of spice. Not really showing a lot on the nose, but complex all the same. Lithe and extraordinary, minerally, stony palate with hints of liquorice. Long, complex and super individualistic. (WS)
Cask sample. Pale rust colour – much paler than the Santo Stefano di Perno. Heady nose with masses of early appeal. Hugely seductive. Great, even if tightrope, balance already. Utterly transparent. Great lift, though the tannins are quite difficult to discern under all that rosy fruit. What a charmer! (JR)
