Fenocchio's 2011 Barolo is wonderfully layered and silky in the glass. Sweet tobacco, licorice, menthol and spices wrap around a core of expressive dark stone fruits in this impeccably balanced, harmonious Barolo from Fenocchio. The style is classic, but the firm tannins are softened by the natural exuberance of the vintage. This is a very pretty wine in its class.

Modern but restrained fruit with a tremendous floral scent, dark chocolate and leather. Manages to tame the wild tannins of Nebbiolo, giving a fine abrasion on the palate and bright acidity. Remarkably delicate structure, and very much drinkable now. (RH)
Claudio Fenocchio's base 2011 Barolo shows simple lines, medium intensity and quick approachability. The wine is executed in a classic style with long maceration times to increase color density and aromatic intensity followed by long aging in Slovenian oak casks. I have lingering doubts concerning the lackluster bouquet. The wine presents a flat, one-dimensional set of dark fruit and spice aromas that show little potential for a future evolution.
