Punteggio 17.5/20 · Da bere 2018-2030, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2015

South-east facing. Deeply aromatic without jumping out of the glass. Perhaps a little bit lean on the palate, the tannins dry but surprisingly resolved. Distinctive orange flavours on the palate, subtle yet very long. I think the Terlo is better value. (JH)

The 2011 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is a tightly wound ball of muscle, power and determination. I love the masculine intensity offered by this wine. It also shows inner harmony and a delightful level of complexity with an exciting assembly of spicy fruit and balsam herb aromas. The tannins are firm and polished but still need time to soften.

Mid dark russet. Already well knit on the nose. Very sweet and luscious on palate entry – much richer than most and almost on the cusp of syrupy! And then it goes into transparent fresh Barolo mode so it clearly does the business – in a rather riper style than most. Excellent balance overall. (JR)

The 2011 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is the most complete of the wines in this range, largely the result of this site's slightly shelted exposure, something that is always an asset in warmer years. Expressive aromatic overtones add lift and precision to a core of pliant, racy fruit in a Barolo that captures the best qualities of the vintage while retaining plenty of poise. Dark red stone fruits, cherry pit, menthol and cinnamon are some of the many notes that are laced into the enticing finish. The Costa Grimaldi is quite a bit deeper and darker than the straight Terlo, but it also has a bit more nuance and better overall balance.
