Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2016-2028, Walter Speller, jancisrobinson.com, Mar 2015

Bright mid ruby with orange tinges. Holds back on the nose, but shows the typical Nebbiolo markers iron and cherry and with a dash of oak. This is a little more austere than Rocche dell’Annunziata while the oak has added a bit of drying tannins. Elegant, austere finish with loads of tannins, but the fruit holds up effortlessly. (WS)

Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2017-2031, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2015

In 2011, the Barolo Le Serra benefits from its slightly higher elevation and cooler micro-climate, both of which give the wine an added element of freshness that is needed. Dark red stone fruits, flowers, spices and leather are all supported by the characteristic firm La Serra tannins, but the 2011 has a little more mid-palate depth and overall volume that serves to balance some of the angular contours that can be present. A gorgeous and complete wine, the La Serra is also an overachiever in 2011.

Firm, chalky tannins give the 2011 La Serra much of its underlying energy, focus and tension. This is a gorgeous vintage for La Serra, as the generosity of the year and the wine's vibrant acidity play off each other in a striking display of push and pull. The 2011 retains its typical mid-weight personality, but today it is the wine's energy and drive that are compelling above all else.

A juicy and savory red with berry, tile and dried flower character. Full with velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Very pretty. Better in 2017. James Suckling. April, 2015.
