Tasted at the Oriental Hotel, Bangkok, masterclass. A wine with great potential that is already showing some hint of mint. So concentrated and rich that the fruit almost distracts from the (substantial) tannin. Very dry finish at the moment. Wait! (JR)

Still definitely crimson. Ripe, spicy, dark-red fruit. Generous in aroma, serious and sweetly oaked on the palate. Intense and firm and yet there's fantastic energy here. All in place for a long future. (JH)
The 2010 Barolo Sarmassa is the most complete of these Barolos from Marchesi di Barolo. Dark red cherries, plums, new leather and cloves meld together nicely in the glass. Silky tannin support the pliant finish.
Benefitting from southeast exposures, the 2010 Barolo Sarmassa is a deeply layered and concentrated wine with immediate aromas of spice, mahogany, ripe cherry, pressed blackberry and shaved truffle. Barolo Sarmassa offers a very attractive smoothness that is especially evident on the finish. The wine fades slowly leaving a pretty, vanilla aftertaste. Drink: 2016-2028.
