The 2011 Barolo Villero is one of the most delicate of these 2011s. Dried dark cherry, spice, leather, crushed flowers and herbs open up nicely in the glass. All the elements are very nicely balanced throughout. At times a touch fleeting, the Villero gives the distinct impression it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Overall, the Villero offers plenty of site expression and fine overall balance.

Juicy black bramble fruit with a charred beef edge. There's oak scent here too, lending a delicious cinnamon and clove spice. Serious structure with boisterous acidity cutting through the tannin. Smoky on the finish, and beautifully complex. (RH)
The 2011 Barolo Villero is a difficult wine to read. The nose lacks the balance you should expect from a top-shelf, pedigree wine like Barolo. Indeed, the wine's overall personality is easy, fresh and lacking in great depth or dimension. The Villero vineyard (in Castiglione Falletto) is known for its structured wines. You get nice firmness here, but the bouquet needs some refining and further fine-tuning.
Castiglione Falletto. Just mid ruby with orange rim. A little vegetal and sweet on the nose, and quite simple and soft on the palate. A little dull. (WS)
