With only 2,000 bottles made, the 2011 Barbaresco Marcarini is undoubtedly gone by now. This expression of Nebbiolo opens to round and ripe tones of cherry, blackberry and dark plum. The effect is simple, but steady nonetheless.

Treiso. Palish mature-looking ruby with broad orange rim. A little nondescript on the nose at first but with intense fruit and richness on the palate wrapping up the rather hard tannins. Pretty hard work right now. (WS)
