Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2014-2016, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2014

Another delicious wine from Grasso, the 2003 Barolo Ciabot Manzoni has developed nicely in bottle and should drink well for at least another few years. The Manzoni has a little more depth and structure than the other wines in this range, which is one of the reasons it has handled the French oak well. Sweet floral notes meld into red stone fruits, tobacco, earthiness and menthol in this expressive, delineated Barolo. The 2003 will always have a tannic edge, but it is quite good just the same.

Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2013-2016, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2007

The 2003 Barolo Ciabot Manzoni is another of the more successful wines. It is a fresh, vibrant Barolo with a generous, ample personality, outstanding length and plenty of sweet layered red cherries, menthol and sweet toasted oak. It is also the most oaky of these wines and will require another year or two in bottle to come together.

The estate’s Barolos are among my favorite wines for near-term drinking in most vintages. However, these 2003s show an uneven level of quality which is typical of the vintage.
