Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2015-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2009

The 2005 Barolo Bussia Cascina Dardi (Robert Chadderdon Selection) is a decidedly firmer and fresher wine. Here the aromatics are expressive, with gorgeous red berries, flowers, menthol, spices, all of which are woven into an elegant fabric. This mid-weight, structured Barolo requires cellaring for the tannins to melt away, but the 2005 is shaping up to be another beautiful Barolo from the Fantino brothers. Readers who love traditionally styled wines will not want to miss this terrific effort. This is first class juice.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2012-2025, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Oct 2009

The 2005 Barolo Bussia Cascina Dardi is a very pretty, refined wine with attractive aromatics and a perfumed core of red fruit. A long finish and soft, supple tannins round out this delicious Barolo. This is a relatively soft, forward Barolo that should drink nicely with a minimum of cellaring. There is plenty of elegance and harmony here, if not quite the complexity and nuance of the Chadderdon bottling. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. Alessandro Fantino continues to impress for the superb, pedigreed wines he turns out of his tiny, garage-like winery in the old town center of Monforte. Fantino honed his craft over the 18 years he worked with Bartolo Mascarello, and his wines share some aesthetics with those wines, although Fantino’s vineyards are in Bussia, rather than Barolo and La Morra, which naturally lends his wines the more balsamic, spiced profile that is typical of that site. As always, there are two versions of each of the Barolos. The Barolos brought in to the US by importer Robert Chadderdon are aged in cask and decidedly more traditional in style than those destined for other markets, which see French oak. The differences between the wines are most acute in less important vintages, while in top years, the differences are more about style than pure quality.
