Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2018-2035, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2015

Aged in barrique, 20% new. Intense aroma of lightly spicy red fruit with a hint of orange, dried-cherry richness but not overly sweet. Hints of tea and a gentle floral quality. Everything you want in Nebbiolo scent plus just a touch of oak sweentess. Lovely texture, dry, mouth-coating tannins but so gentle and spreading softly to wash the palate. Already giving pleasure but much more to come. (JH)

From one of the most consistent (and celebrated) vineyard crus in the appellation, the 2010 Barolo Brunate flaunts a dry, slightly exotic quality with aromas of wet earth, button mushroom, tobacco, cured meat and Asian spice. Its appearance is bold and concentrated and the mouthfeel is similarly plush and velvety. The Brunate cru offers exceptionally structured Nebbiolo expression and this wine does a great job of underlining that fact.

La Morra. Deep and a little lacklustre, with a narrow orange rim. A little reductive with a hint of candied fruit. Huge concentration and sweetness on the palate and very upfront. (WS)
