Punteggio 90/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2005

Pale yellow. Exotic aromas of peach liqueur, flowers and spicy oak, with a whiff of room freshener. Fat, sweet and full-bodied but lacking in definition. A huge but rather inelegant Batard that some tasters will prize for its sheer fullness and dimension.

The melted-butter scented 2003 Batard-Montrachet (white) is plush, easygoing, and softly plump. A pleasing medium-bodied effort, its over-ripe white fruit flavors lead to a long, supple finish that reveals a nice touch of freshness. It should be drunk over the next 5-6 years. Healthy pale color. Candied peach, apricot and nectarine on the nose, lifted by a floral element. Chewy and densely packed but not at all hard. This is adamantly dry and powerful too but shows more extract. In fact, this is quite explosive in the mouth, and very long, solid and dry on the aftertaste. Not a particularly elegant style, but offers strong potential.
