Rich, light floral, nose that's immediately appealing in the JM Boillot way. An instant hit with a smoky topknot. So easy to like! Rich throughout – purists might just accuse of it of being blowsy but there is masses of pleasure here. (JR)

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Referts is turning into a great wine and deserves a higher score than I awarded a couple of years ago. It has a strict and linear nose, allowing the stony, mineral scents to develop nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced, quite powerful right from the start with citrus peel, ginger and a pleasing saline note that begs another sip on the finish. This is excellent tension and class here. This will be fascinating to see develop.
Pale bright yellow. Yellow peach, menthol and minerals on the nose. Juicy and penetrating in the mouth but tightly wound today; less fat than the village wine but the powerful, tactile, building finish shows surprising sweetness. I'd wait four or five years on this very young, rather strict wine. I may be underrating it today.
Some caramel on the nose, then lots of vibrant citrus fruit on the palate. Charming floral element and delicious fruit purity. Good stuff – worthy of premier cru. (RH)
