From magnum, Arnaud Ente's 2009 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts is drinking very well, opening in the glass with a stunning nose of white peach, crisp orchard fruit, pastry cream and white flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium-full, mineral and precise, with bright acids, impressive structural tension, and a stony, detailed finish. This is a beautifully transparent bottle of Puligny that exemplifies what was possible when the potential of the 2009 vintage was fully realized, and it should continue to drink well for another decade.

Very pale green. Perfumed aromas of white nectarine and spring flowers. Tactile-verging-on-painful, with terrific cut to its steely flavors of white stone fruits. Persistent, harmonious acidity gives this wine great juicy appeal. Not quite as powerful as the Seve du Clos but this is even finer and more complex. A lovely expression of terroir , no mean trick for a very early-ripening vineyard in a vintage like 2009.
Pale, bright yellow. Complex, leesy aromas of stone fruits and minerals. Then sweet, rich and elegant, with youthfully laid-back flavors of lime, lemon and flowers. Best today on the explosive finish, where the wine's thorough ripeness is apparent. A beauty.
