Firm yet well-integrated tannins provide the backbone as the 2008 Barbaresco Bric Turot opens up in the glass. I find lovely inner sweetness and perfume in the dark fruit, although the 2008 is several years away, at a minimum, from providing true pleasure. Hints of spices and flowers wrap around the vibrant, juicy finish.

In particular, this year I was impressed with the quality and consistency of the entry-level offerings. Importer: Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, Woodinville, WA, tel. (425) 415-3738
Medium red with a pale rim. Red cherry, mint and soil tones on the slightly medicinal nose. More minty and closed than the 2008 normale , showing less obvious ripeness and sweetness today. The tannins coat the teeth. I find this a bit dry.
