Punteggio 16/20 · Da bere 2014-2019, Jancis Robinson MW, May 2013

Quite lively nose and then masses of acidity but without quite enough fruit concentration on the mid palate. Lime-sherbet flavours. (JR)

Bright pale straw. High-pitched perfume of white pepper and lavender, plus a hint of sweet oak. Dense, sweet and oaky, with lovely energy to the citrus fruit and fresh pineapple flavors. This firmly structured wine finishes with good underlying minerality and a brisk note of lemon pith.

Playing very much true to type, the 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot caresses the palate with layers of fruit. This is an especially rich, dense Chassagne, as the wines from Morgeot tend to be, yet there is also plenty of balance in the glass. Readers who appreciate the fleshier side of Chassagne will find plenty to admire here. Thomas Morey adds that this parcel routinely has a high percentage of shot berries, as it did again in 2010.

Anticipated maturity: 2013+. This is a gorgeous set of wines from Thomas Morey. In the 2010s I find gorgeous transparency to site and tons of refinement, something I saw less of in the 2009s. Yields were down 15-20%, which is pretty good considering the fate many of Morey’s colleagues suffered. Because Morey bottles before the following harvest, the cellar is warmed to start the malos, which in 2010 were done by January, to give the wines six months or so to settle prior to bottling. Fans of the domaine should be thrilled to learn that production is set to go up in 2011 with three new wines; Macherelles, Chenevottes, and Clos St. Jean, while quantities will increase slightly in the Morgeot and Batard.
