Smoky. Tight. Very bright-fruited. From Steven Spurrier's cool, damp cellar after having been bought en primeur. Medium weight and absolutely classic. It will never been a blockbuster but the balance is great. (JR)

Pale, bright yellow. Nose initially dominated by mint and caraway seed, but opened to show yellow plum and peach skin. At once sweeter and more vibrant than the Masures, with juicy flavors of yellow fruits, minerals and menthol. Serious, firm-edged wine, a bit youthfully unyielding but structured to evolve in bottle. With aeration, this remained a bit pinched and developed an earthy quality.
Closed on the nose, but still a little spicy. Acidity and fruit not yet fully integrated, and perhaps a little too crisp for the fruit weight. (JH)
