Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2014-2022, Jancis Robinson MW, Jan 2015

Pale rusty ruby. Light nose with no sign of ladybirds. Some sweetness and a little severe on the finish – uh oh. Definitely firm but with a lovely fan of richly mature flavours on the finish. This really comes into its own on the finish. (JR)

The 2004 Volnay 1er Cru Champans was poured from magnum. It has a slightly deeper color than the Taillepieds. The nose is more cohesive with cranberry and red plum scents, a ferrous note emerging with aeration. The palate is less stalky than the Taillepieds with more grip on the finish, which needs more finesse. Still, this is a decent wine for the vintage. Drink now-2019.

Scented and notably riper than the straight Volnay on the nose. Very smooth and well handled – all the fruit, acidity and tannin are integrated far better than any other wine so far. It’s possible to think of drinking this earlier than the village wine though it should last much longer. Very savoury and refined. (JR)

(these 2004s were bottled in April of 2006) Moderately saturated medium red. Cherry and earth on the nose. Dry, clean and inviting, with an edge of acidity giving precision to the flavors of blackberry, licorice and mint. Firmly structured wine, finishing with grainy tannins and very good intensity and length.
