Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2016-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2016

The 2005 Barolo Garblèt Sue’ has developed into a superb wine. Exotic in its bouquet, the 2005 offers up a compelling mélange of truffle, orange peel, spice, savory herbs and lavender, all of which lift out of the glass effortlessly. This is an unusually refined, weightless Garblèt Sue’. The incisive tannins have softened over time, releasing layers of perfume and fruit in a sublime Barolo loaded with class and pedigree.

Good deep red. Wild nose shows more chestnut, tobacco, leather and smoke than primary fruit. Big, rich and backward, with a distinctly medicinal quality and an impression of power. There's superb depth here but this very closed wine will need a decade in the cellar. Finishes with major mouthclenching tannins. Today the 2006 is much easier to taste.

The 2005 Barolo Garblèt Sue' reveals a firmer and more focused personality than the Rocche. Dark red fruits, tar, licorice and smoke emerge from this sturdy, mid-weight Barolo. The Garblèt Sue' needs a few years for its tannins to soften, but it too, is a very successful effort. The wine continues to gain volume and depth with air, showing awesome density and balance.

The 2005 Barolo Garblet Sue’ reveals a firmer and more focused personality than the Rocche. Dark red fruits, tar, licorice and smoke emerge from this sturdy, mid-weight Barolo. The Garblet Sue’ needs a few years for its tannins to soften, but it, too, is a very successful effort. The wine continues to gain volume and depth with air, showing awesome density and balance. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2025. This is a wonderful set of new releases from the Brovia family. The 2005 Barolos are very much in the style of the vintage and show tons of balance and sheer harmony. The Barolos are vinified in a traditional manner, using natural yeasts and with a preference towards cement for the single-vineyard wines, which are subsequently aged in French oak. The entry-level Barolo is made from the estate’s youngest vines and aged in large Slavonian oak. Importer: Rosenthal Wine Merchants, Pine Plains, NY; tel. (800) 910-1990
