A potentially outstanding offering, the dark ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Pauillac offers lovely, crunchy, cherry and black currant fruit, smoke, and licorice characteristics. It will be ready to drink upon release, and should evolve for a decade.

Deep purple with a slightly weak rim. Straightforward, dry nose – with some straight quite raw acidity and pure Pauillac fruit. Contains 28% press wine from the grand vin. Big and crisp and even., Solid all the way through. Fine tannins. Very dry finish. But very neat and much less scrawny than most second wines. Only at the end does it let one down. (JR)
