Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2013-2015, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2010

The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino may very well end up being the wine of the vintage, while the Rosso reaches a level matched by very few other producers. The 2007 Rosso di Montalcino reveals a vivid core of silky, perfumed red fruit, Medium in body, the wine floats on the palate as raspberries, sweet herbs and spices add further complexity. The bouquet alone is utterly seductive, but pretty much everything about the Rosso is captivating, even if the 2007 is missing some of the richness of the 2006. This is an impeccably refined Rosso will undoubtedly appeal to readers who enjoy traditionally made wines.

Proprietor Piero Palmucci is not only making some of the most brilliant wines in Montalcino, he is now inspiring a whole new generation of young growers with his non-interventionalist philosophy to viticulture and traditional approach to winemaking. A visit to these small cellars is always fascinating, particularly spending some time tasting through barrel samples cask by cask. This is a stunning set of wines readers will not want to miss. The 2005 Brunello di Montalcino may very well end up being the wine of the vintage, while the Rossos reach a level matched by very few other wines.
